Acorn & Anchor Therapy Centre 

Hi, I'm Kanwar. I completed my Masters of Social Work at the University of Toronto, with a previous education in Cognitive Science and Psychology.

At Acorn and Anchor, I use approaches that best fit the unique needs of the people I work with. I work with all clients from age 9 to adults, with experience especially supporting male-identified people of all ages. My approach has a relational focus that is strengths-based, meaning that building a strong therapeutic relationship comes first. I then use a variety of evidence-based tools to support my clients develop insight, including elements of Internal Family Systems, CBT, DBT, and Psychodynamic therapy, with a strong underpinning of neuroscience. At your readiness, we then explore aspects of your identity and discover how past experiences, relationships, and environment have had a profound impact on lifelong mental health and wellness. I work with all clients towards reaching a balanced association with their thoughts, feelings, and personal identity. 

 

With younger clients, I also make use of art/play approaches to create a safe space that is exploratory, growth-oriented, and encourages positive patterns of emotional regulation, critical thinking and problem solving. 

 

In my free time, I like to spend time outdoors. Everything from portage camping, road cycling, going for runs, to art, films, and music, are some avenues that help me keep myself grounded and connected to others. I am a strong believer in the role of play, community involvement, and unstructured exploration as ways of developing resilience, wellness and a positive relationship with ourselves.
